2012 Battle on the Dam

In 2011, the District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence along with The Community Roundtable, Eat Smart, Move More South Carolina,
Lexington County Healthy Partners and the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission came together to support a walking event to encourage active lifestyles for District 5 students and the District 5 community. During the school year there were ongoing educational opportunities focusing on active and healthy lifestyles while trying to combat childhood obesity.  The highlight of this cooperative effort was a walk across the Lake Murray Dam on Saturday, March 5, 2011.  We had over 2300 registered walkers for this event.  Monies raised over our costs are going to healthy initiatives in our District.

First Annual Community Celebration and Benefit

District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence held a silent and live auction to celebrate our community on October 13, 2011 from 6-9 pm at the River Center at Saluda Shoals Park.  All proceeds went directly to the $5 for 5 Backpack program and other educational initiatives that support our students. The event was an amazing success and we are extremely thankful for all of our sponsors and other participants that contributed to the District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence.
