<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">What is it?</span></strong><br />
The BATTLE ON THE DAM is a walking event encouraging children and families to adopt active lifestyles. We&#8217;ll walk across the dam, from the Irmo side to the Lexington side, and then enjoy the Battle on the Dam Health Fair at the park on the Lexington side of the Dam.</p>
<p>School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties, The District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence, The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission and The Community Roundtable have come together to support this walking event to encourage active lifestyles for our students and communities.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">When</span></strong><br />
Saturday, March 2nd, 2013, 9am<br />
(Rain date &#8211; Sat. March 9th)</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">Where</span></strong><br />
Lake Murray Dam. We&#8217;ll start on the Irmo side and finish on the Lexington side.</p>

<p>Registration deadline is February 13, 2013.</p>
<p>Students &amp; Parents &#8211; Return the registration form to your school.<br />
Community Members &#8211; Return the registration form to a Lexington-Richland 5 school or mail to: Richland 5 (Attn. Amee White), 1020 Dutch Fork Road, Irmo, SC 29063.</p>

<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">Who can participate?</span></strong><br />
Everyone is welcome! The event is noncompetitive and we will not reward individual<br />
times. EVERYONE who comes out and tries their best is a winner. All District Five student participations (K4‐12th grade) will receive a t‐shirt at no cost.</p>
<p>Siblings and friends of District Five students are welcome, but please remember that every student participant must be accompanied by an adult walking buddy.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">Parking &amp; Shuttle Service</span></strong><br />
<strong>PARKING</strong><br />
Parking is provided at Irmo High School Parking lots, with overflow parking available at Irmo Middle School. <strong>No Parking will be allowed in the SCE&amp;G parking lots at the Lake Murray Dam. </strong></p>
<p><strong>SHUTTLES (TO THE DAM)</strong><br />
Parking attendants will assist you to the closest shuttle. Shuttles will operate from each parking lot to take participants to the Dam. Shuttles will begin running at 7:30 AM to the Irmo side of the dam. You are encouraged to arrive EARLY. <strong>The last shuttle for the dam will leave promptly at 8:30am!</strong></p>
<p><strong>SHUTTLES (BACK TO THE PARKING AREA)</strong><br />
Shuttles will depart from the Lexington side of the Dam to return you to your cars at Irmo High School and Irmo Middle School starting at 10:00 AM and will continue until all participants have been returned.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">START: Irmo Side</span></strong><br />
We will have music and entertainment for families at the shuttle drop-off area from 7:30-9 AM on the Irmo side of the Dam as well as an award ceremony to recognize schools with the most participants.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">FINISH: Health Fair on the Lexington Side</span></strong><br />
Upon completion of the walk, make your way to the park on the Lexington side of the Dam for the Battle ON the Dam Health Fair.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: large;">Important!</span></strong></p>
<blockquote><p>We are expecting a large crowd. Because we will be near water, we encourage parents to carefully supervise their children to prevent accidents</p>
<p>Allow yourself plenty of time to park and get to the buses.</p>
<p>Rest well the night before so that your family will be energized and ready to walk the Dam.</p>
<p>Dress comfortably in layers depending on the weather. Wear comfortable and supportive shoes for the 1.7 mile walk.</p>
<p>You may want to bring a water bottle for you and your child(ren) in case anyone gets thirsty as you are walking. It is important to stay hydrated.</p>
<p>Strollers and backpacks are permitted. Pets are not allowed on the Dam or on the shuttles.</p>
<p>Strollers can be transported on buses and are welcomed for our younger people!</p>
